A Cozy Christmas Studio Session with the Sweetest Little Family

Fact: Christmas sessions in Illinois require strategy.

Because let’s be honest… no one wants to be outside in December pretending they are not freezing.

So when this sweet family reached out wanting that cozy, at-home Christmas feel, I knew the perfect solution. I rented a beautiful studio space that gave us the warmth and softness they were envisioning. This is something I offer for winter portrait sessions, especially here in Aurora, IL where outdoor natural light sessions just are not realistic in the colder months.

And honestly? It turned out so good.

A Studio That Felt Like Home

Even though I primarily shoot natural light outdoor sessions, living in Illinois means you adapt. Christmas portraits almost always require an indoor option, and renting a styled studio allows us to create that warm, inviting, holiday feeling without anyone shivering through it.

This session was with a mom, dad, and their absolutely hilarious son.

From the moment we started, he was ready.

Any time I told him to make a silly face or show me what the Grinch looked like, he committed fully. No hesitation. Full expression. Total personality.

He had the best time, which made the entire session feel effortless.

And if I am being honest, it reminded me how much I genuinely love working with children.

Before photography, I worked in child welfare as a social worker. I have always loved working closely with kids. Getting to photograph them now adds this whole new layer of fun to my work. There is something so beautiful about capturing their personality exactly as it is in that season of life.

Also… fun fact.

My very first job at 15 was being an elf for Santa Claus at my local mall.

So maybe Christmas sessions were always meant to be part of my story.

Multiple Sets, One Vision

One of the things I loved about this session was being able to use multiple sets within the studio. It gave the family variety while still keeping everything cohesive and warm.

For portrait sessions, we do not typically schedule a full Creative Direction Call like I do for branding clients. But we always spend time talking through emails, messages, or texts beforehand. I like to understand what kind of feeling you are going for. Cozy. Playful. Traditional. Modern.

Once I understand your vision, I handle the execution.

That is what makes sessions feel intentional instead of random.

Portrait Photography in Aurora, IL

Whether it is a Christmas session, updated family portraits, or couples photos, my goal is always the same.

I want the images to feel like you.

Relaxed. Connected. Joyful.

Living in Aurora, Illinois means we have to be flexible with the seasons. Outdoor sessions are beautiful most of the year, but winter often calls for creative indoor solutions. Renting a studio space allows us to maintain quality, warmth, and comfort without sacrificing style.

And honestly, sometimes the cozy indoor sessions become people’s favorites.
